Frequently Asked Questions

Therapy is a safe, supportive space to talk about the thoughts, emotions, and experiences that matter most to you, with a trained and objective professional guiding the process. Together, you and your therapist explore past and current concerns, identify patterns, and work toward meaningful change. Some people come to therapy for a specific issue, while others want help navigating multiple areas of life.

Therapy is a collaborative process that works best when both you and your therapist are actively engaged. People seek therapy for many reasons such as, managing stress, coping with anxiety or depression, healing from trauma, improving relationships, or simply gaining clarity and direction.

Counseling can be helpful because it increases self-awareness, which often leads to a greater sense of control and confidence in your life. It also provides practical skills and tools to help you cope more effectively, make healthier decisions, and create a more fulfilling and balanced life.

The length of therapy varies from person to person, but we generally recommend beginning with about six weekly sessions. This gives you and your therapist time to build a strong therapeutic relationship, better understand your needs, and start making meaningful progress. After that, you and your provider can reassess and decide together what frequency and duration of care will best support your goals.

We offer a brief phone consultation with a few questions regarding your situation to determine if our services are the right fit for your needs. We look forward to supporting you and working closely with you!

The scope of treatment for mental health therapists/counselors is talk therapy. Typically, therapists have a Master’s degree and continue their study on an annual basis. Psychologists not only give counseling, but also conduct psychological testing for schools, courts, and other organizations. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who often limit counseling and talk therapy services and primarily provide medication management.

Your first session is an initial consultation where your therapist will get to know you, your history, and what brings you to therapy. We’ll talk through your concerns, current stressors, and what you hope to gain from treatment. You’ll also learn how therapy works, including privacy and confidentiality, and have a chance to ask any questions you may have.

By the end of the session, you and your therapist will begin identifying goals and a plan for moving forward. While listening and support are an important part of our role, our focus is also on helping you develop practical skills so you can manage distress more effectively and feel confident navigating challenges on your own.

While no one can completely prevent mental health challenges, there is a lot we can do to reduce risk and lessen their impact. Building emotional well-being, strengthening resilience, and seeking support early can often keep concerns from becoming more serious. Therapy can also help you develop coping skills, improve relationships, and recognize warning signs so you can take care of your mental health proactively.
