Hello, 2022!

As another year begins, you may find yourself setting new goals. But, as days turn into months, many of us struggle to get to the gym, make new friends, or say no to difficult requests made by family members or co-workers. Wouldn’t it be nice to have magical dust that will allow us to be our most desired selves? Here are a few tips to help your goals be realistic and achievable:

1. Keep it short, sweet, and simple

At first, a laundry list of goals may leave you feeling accomplished, but when stress and responsibilities get in the way of achieving them, you may turn to avoidance or procrastination.

Instead, stick to committing to 2-3 goals at most. Examine your daily and weekly routines and see what can be changed to include action items that will lead towards your goal.

Here’s an example to get you started:

Goal: Get out of debt.

Ask yourself: What can I do on a daily/weekly basis that might allow me to spend less?

Action Item: Instead of buying breakfast every morning, maybe I can make breakfast at home and pocket the money saved to apply towards my debt.

2. Assess Your Progress

Check-in on a weekly or monthly basis to see how well your progress measures against your goal.

Through routine assessments, you allow yourself to be accountable to your goals and it will set you up with a foundation to be successful.

It’s also not a bad idea to reward yourself after achieving certain milestones. 🙂

3. Let Your Intention Be About You

Folks who are trying to achieve goals for the sake of others are more likely to be distracted from their path to achieving; whereas those who are seeking to achieve goals for the sake of themselves are more likely to be intrinsically motivated and less likely to be thrown off track.

For example: losing weight to please my partner is a much steeper hill to climb than losing weight for the greater health and wellbeing of yourself.
